I started the CelloMuse project as a way to support the incredibly important work that non-profits like Community MusicWorks and Il Sistema inspired programs offer children.
Below is a list of ways I can assist and engage with your staff and students. Each residency will be curated for the specific needs of each program. I strive to offer these supports for every kind of budget.
Musical Workshop
Using a school concert model and a variety of familiar and contemporary tunes, I work with head teachers to design a fun, highly participatory workshop using cello and supporting electronics.
Improvisation
Making up your own music is not only fun and empowering, it’s also one of the quickest ways to learn good intonation and sound production. In this class there is no such thing as a wrong note, just bold experiments and surprising creativity. Students AND teachers are encouraged to participate!
Instrumental Yoga
Musicians are athletes. In this class we learn how to use our musical bodies with mindfulness and attention. This class uses gentle movement and strong imagery to accelerate musical technique. It pairs nicely with Improvisation.
Technology in the classroom
There are so many ways to use technology to assist in music education. Spend a session with me learning how to utilize technology to accelerate musical literacy in the classroom.
Teaching Support Group
Join me in a discussion and Q & A of class specific hurdles. This is designed to support teachers in their creative problem solving skills and encourage longer, post-session dialogue between colleagues.
Pop-ups
We’re so used to classical musicians on stage. See what happens when the musician comes off the stage! The CelloMuse will surprise your school with a day of pop-up performances in the most unexpected yet ordinary places.
Masterclass
Using a traditional masterclass format, this class showcases 4 – 6 student performers as they are asked to reflect and problem solve their way to more powerful and convincing performances.
